And to say we’ve often been left bewildered is perhaps the biggest understatement of them all.
Have they turned out better for it?
Well, you tell us.
Here are five video game characters that went through the biggest transformations and somehow lived to tell the tale.
WhenWarrior Withinlaunched just a few short years afterSands of Time,The Prince was hardly recognizable.
The open-minded and almost reluctant soul was out, and the metal-loving murder machine was in.
Did it bode well for Ubisoft?
We like to think so.
And, of course, it worked, and it definitely suited the target demographic.
ButJak II,on the other hand, was on a whole other podium.
The wide-eyed hero, at least in Naughty Dog’s eyes, was out for the count.
Was it a good move for the series?
Remember Angel of Darkness?
Yeah, that happened.
The fact is, we don’t know Lara Croft all that well.
And judging by the way she’s been through countless phases, neither do her creators, evidently.
Turned out, though, that Naughty Dog wanted for her to follow just that.
And yet, it was a transformation that just so happened to transpire in a heartbeat.
And to think, all of this happened in just two chapters.
Say what you will about the series, butthat’sgood storytelling and character development, right there.
And, you know,fair enough.
And it didn’t help that its characters, along with the tone, alsochanged their course, either.
Say what you want, but that’s quite the transformation, even bySaints Rows standards.
