Video game technology has come a long way since the Super Nintendo era.
However, many players are nostalgic about the charming, simplistic design of the games from way back then.
Here is everything we know aboutStarlight Legacy.
What is Starlight Legacy?
Starlight Legacyis a story-rich, 2D RPG that is reminiscent of games from the Super Nintendo era.
Everything about the game is inspired by 90s-era gaming, including the gameplay, visuals, and audio.
Most notably, the visuals employ 2D pixel art, while the battles employ aturn-based RPGcombat system.
Story
Starlight Legacyis a story-rich game.
At the heart of the story is the Evaria Kingdom.
The abundance of resources has so far enabled the kingdoms four provinces to co-exist in peace and harmony.
However, two things happen that threaten to plunge the kingdom into chaos.
First, the king places a ban on the teaching of magic.
Second, an unknown faction attacks and damages the magical Eternity Tree.
The tree withers, kickstarting the worlds corruption and degradation.
As such, their mission changes, and they must find powerful relics to restore the tree.
Their mission brings them across all sorts of monsters that they must fight and vanquish to progress.
Gameplay
Adventure is an integral aspect of the gameplay inStarlight Legacy.
The goal is to find and collect relics that the king can use to restore the withering Eternity Tree.
The relics are hidden across the open world, encouraging players to explore every inch of it.
A non-linear exploration system lets the players move in any order.
The world is vast and features diverse environments, including lush forests, dungeons, towns, and more.
Players can easily travel between the different environments without load times.
Besides walking, players can also get around faster by flying in 3D flight sequences.
Interestingly, while the games world features 2D, 90s-style graphics, the overworld is in 3D.
Enemies come in different shapes and sizes.
Moreover, they have varying abilities and fighting tactics.
For example, some breath fire, while others shoot projectiles.
As such, every battle is strategic and unique, and players must learn and adapt as they go.
The game employs aturn-based RPGcombat system, just like similar games from the Super Nintendo era.
Players can monitor their characters and enemies health and other stats at the bottom of the screen.
Interestingly, the enemies and bosses are scaled based on players progress, considering the non-linear exploration system.
Players characters have varying weapons, skills, and abilities that suit different situations.
Moreover, the RPG system enables players to expand and upgrade their characters weapons, skills, and equipment.
Every upgrade makes the characters better fighters and explorers by boosting aspects such as strength and speed.
Players can access upgrades by visiting certain stores as they explore the four provinces.
The games thrilling story unfolds as players explore the kingdom and fight enemies.
Like the exploration system, the story is non-linear and versatile.
Players can also interact with certain NPCs, and the conversations can be interesting.
Characters communicate via a text-based dialogue system, and players can piece the story together from every interaction.
Development
Starlight Legacyis developed by Decafesoft and published by Eastasiasoft Limited.
